Katell graduated from University Paris-VIII with a Master of cinema and a Bachelor of philosophy.
With Sébastien Bailly she created in 2004 the Brive Cinema Festival, dedicated to medium-length films. She directed many short films. The first one, A bras le corps, distributed in 2005, was selected for the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight and the César Awards. Then came L'Imprudence in 2007 and L'Echappée in 2009.

Katell directed her first feature film, Love Like Poison, in 2010, a story about a young adolescent girl torn between family loyalties, her religious beliefs and the changes from girl to woman. The film won the Jean Vigo Award. Her second feature film, Suzanne, narrated the story of a young woman who falls in love with a delinquent boy, leading her to become herself an outlaw. The film was selected for the opening of Cannes 2013 Critics' Week.
In 2016 was released her third feature film, Heal the living, adapted from Maylis de Kerangal's novel published in 2013.
